East Grand Forks Water and Light has started a water meter replacement project. This project is necessary as the majority of the utility's water meters are at the end of their expected lifespan.
The meters need to be changed to ensure accurate measurement and will also bring the utility to the latest technology in meter reading. Water and Light has contracted with Keystone Utility Services to coordinate and perform the meter replacements. The project will begin in January and will continue through 2023.
Customers affected will be contacted by letter with instructions to schedule an appointment to perform the installation. During installation, Keystone and/or Water and Light crews will need access to the water meter, typically located in the basement, utility room, or crawlspace. A person over the age of 18 authorized by the customer will have to be present during work. Water service will be temporarily interrupted during the procedure and the typical job will take 15-30 minutes. Water and Light recommends customers test proper operation of their shutoff valves around their meter before work begins.
